QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Frequently Asked Questions
It is completely normal to have questions before reaching out. I hope these help. If you don't find what you're looking for, feel free to contact me directly.
GETTING STARTED
Before your first session
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you have been carrying something that feels heavy — whether that is anxiety, relationship struggles, old wounds, or simply a sense that something is off — therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. Many people come to therapy simply because they want to understand themselves more deeply and live with more intention and ease.
What can I expect from the free 15-minute consultation?
The consultation is a brief, low-pressure conversation. A chance for you to share a little about what brought you here and for me to answer any questions you have about working together. It is not a therapy session, but it gives us both a sense of whether we might be a good fit. There is no obligation to schedule after the consultation.
Why is the consultation done by video rather than phone?
As a telehealth provider, I am ethically required to verify the identity of each client before beginning services. Starting with a video consultation allows me to meet you face to face, confirm your identity, and ensure I am providing services safely and responsibly from the very beginning of our work together. It also gives you a chance to experience the platform before your first full session.
What happens after the consultation?
If we decide to move forward, I will send you intake paperwork through the SimplePractice client portal. This includes an informed consent form, a HIPAA privacy notice, and a brief intake questionnaire. Once your paperwork is complete, we will schedule your first session.
How quickly will you respond to my inquiry?
I typically respond to all inquiries within one to two business days. If you haven't heard back within that time, please feel free to reach out again. If you are in crisis, please do not wait for a response — Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. This site is not monitored 24/7 and cannot provide crisis support.
ABOUT THERAPY
What working together looks like
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are 50 minutes and are led by you. There is no agenda or checklist — you bring what feels most present, and we work from there. My role is to listen carefully, ask questions that help you go deeper, and help you make sense of what you are carrying. Some sessions are emotionally intense; others are quieter and more reflective. Both are part of the process.
How long does therapy take?
There is no standard timeline — it depends entirely on what you are working through and what feels right for you. Some clients find meaningful progress in a few months. Others benefit from longer-term work. We will check in regularly about how things are going and adjust the pace and frequency accordingly. You are never locked into a set number of sessions.
How often should I attend sessions?
Most clients start with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum and establish the therapeutic relationship. Over time, some clients shift to biweekly or monthly sessions as their goals evolve. We will discuss what frequency makes sense for you during our initial work together.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes — everything shared in session is confidential. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions, including situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or when required by a court order. I will always review these limits with you as part of your informed consent before we begin.
What if therapy doesn't feel like the right fit?
The therapeutic relationship matters — a lot. If at any point you feel we are not the right fit, I want you to tell me. We can talk about it, adjust our approach, or I can help connect you with another provider who may be a better match. Finding the right therapist is more important than staying with the wrong one.
Do you work with teens?
I work primarily with adults but am open to working with older adolescents on a case by case basis. Please reach out to discuss your specific situation and we can determine together whether it would be a good fit.
FEES & LOGISTICS
Practical details
What are your fees?
Individual counseling sessions are $100 for 50 minutes. Couples counseling sessions are $150 for 50 minutes. A free 15-minute consultation is available for new clients.
Do you offer sliding scale fees?
Yes. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients experiencing financial hardship. Availability is based on need and current caseload. If cost is a concern, please mention it when you reach out and we can discuss options.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not currently accept insurance. I am a private pay practice, which means you pay directly for services at the time of each session. I can provide a monthly superbill — a detailed receipt — that you may be able to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before beginning services. This estimate outlines the anticipated cost of your care based on your treatment plan. You can request a Good Faith Estimate at any time before or during treatment. Please contact me directly for details.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a late cancellation fee. I understand that life happens — if something unexpected comes up, please reach out as soon as possible and we can discuss it.
How do I pay for sessions?
Payment is processed securely through SimplePractice, my client portal. A credit or debit card is kept on file and charged at the time of each session. I accept all major credit and debit cards.
LICENSURE & SUPERVISION
About my credentials
What is an LPC-Associate and how is it different from a fully licensed LPC?
An LPC-Associate (LPC-A) is a master's level clinician who has completed a graduate degree in counseling, passed the National Counselor Examination (NCE), and received licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (BHEC). The LPC-A designation indicates that I am in the supervised practice phase of licensure, during which I accumulate 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience under an LPC-Supervisor before qualifying for full licensure as an LPC.
The quality and confidentiality of your care are not affected by my associate status. You are receiving services from a trained, licensed, and supervised clinician.
